How can you help?
This
is a growing but daunting effort due to the great need. There are many ways to help as the many
current volunteers and contributors have learned.
· Give/Raise Funds: This is always basic. It takes money to buy metal and parts, to weld, to package, to ship, and to distribute. Ask -- and you shall receive -- is the message of scripture. Be creative.
· Find People with welding, metalworking, or woodworking skills who will agree to help build P.E.T. parts and send or take them to a PET location. Help them with expenses--buy the metal, etc.
· Find Businesses that sell or make "off the shelf" items needed for the P.E.T.s. Get them to donate or sell to you at no profit. Send the items to the The P.E.T. Place.
· Talk about the P.E.T. Project. Promote. Gossip about it. Say to folks in conversation, "Our church is doing a fascinating mission project..." Tell the story.
· Volunteer at the PET Place in Luling. Bring your Sunday School, Service club members, or just a group of friends to Luling and spend the day working in the shop. No experience needed we will provide any training necessary.

“The Gift of Mobility”
For those who have lost the use of their legs due to polio, landmines, injury, amputation or disease
THE NEED
There are an estimated 2
million people world-wide that have lost the use of their legs due to
landmines, disease, accident or injury.
Landmines alone kill or maim one person every twenty seconds.
The need is extensive and growing!
A SOLUTION - P.E.T.

Basically,
the P.E.T. is a hand-cranked wheelchair that uses solid tires for use on dirt
and grass areas.
The
P.E.T. has been extensively field tested and is designed to be:
Ø STURDY: in order to provide
services for the rider for many years
Ø SIMPLE: to be easily maintained in
outpost conditions
Ø LOW-COST: so the donor dollar can
serve as many as possible
These
requirements have led to the following design:
·
Hand-cranked: The hand-cranked model has proven most
successful in most field conditions.
·
Sturdy tires: The P.E.T. uses sturdy and low cost wheelbarrow
wheels and non-puncture tires.
·
Two sizes: P.E.T.s are made in both child and adult
sizes.
·
Adaptability: The P.E.T. can be adapted to a wide variety
of bed or seat configurations.
· Simple brakes: The P.E.T. has a front-wheel brake, with a simple wood-wedge parking brake on a rear wheel.
P.E.T.s
are built by volunteers using mostly donated components. There are P.E.T. production centers in
Florida, Missouri, Texas, Tennessee, New York, Washington, Kansas, Mexico,
South Aferica and Zambia .
THE RESULT
· Over 10,000 P.E.T.s shipped to 61 different countries worldwide.
· Many more P.E.T. parts, wheelchairs, and crutches are also sent to various locations.
Here is just one example:

Jose
Gandara age 39 lives in Guadalupe, Nueva Leon Mexico. Jose had polio at age 2
and lost the use of his legs. Jose went about his work of selling his
newspapers on a skateboard propelled by his hands. His three sons helped
support the family by washing windshields on the streets of Guadalupe.
A
Mission Team from Luling and Seguin, Texas carried the PETs into Mexico with them
on their trip to Monterrey.
Jose
said when he got his PET “Now I can look my sons in the eye”
Jose’s
PET was built by volunteers in the PET Project Texas, Inc. shop located in
Luling, Texas.
